Also known as He Ba Hong, a Commander in the military. He is half-Hu (with Hu blood from his grandfather's homeland of Shule) and grew up in Yongzhuang village where he and Sui Sui were childhood acquaintances. He played the hujia flute and was disliked by villagers for his foreign features. He redeemed Sui Sui from an opera troupe eight years ago and they had a brief moon-worship marriage ceremony before he left for war. He is taciturn, battle-hardened, and highly respected by soldiers. His rank is Commander though soldiers reverently call him General He Ba.
