The paternal grandfather of Tong Yuqian and Tong Yuyao, whose actual surname was Guo. He was a philanderer who favored concubines and mistreated his legal wife. The Guo family had once been comprador capitalists. Much of the family wealth was transferred away by a concubine's son, and before liberation the family reportedly fled to Hong Kong.
