The protagonist, a woman who wakes up realizing she is a stand-in supporting actress in a 1990s novel. She was married to the story's villain Qi Qingbai because she resembles the heroine by seven or eight parts. The original Gu Yueyue grew resentful and jealous, scheming until she destroyed herself. The awakened Gu Yueyue is clear-headed, beautiful with fair skin and delicate features, and decides to change her fate. She cleverly wins over her mother-in-law Lin Cuimiao by sowing discord between her and her sister Lin Cuihua. She has an older brother named Gu Dahai who works in the provincial capital. She plans to eventually divorce Qi Qingbai but knows it must be a long-term project.
