He is abusive and verbally cruel towards Luo Jin, insulting her character and threatening her. He orchestrated Luo Jin's engagement to Chu Qinzhi to secure ties with the powerful Chu family, hoping to gain influence within the Gu household. He is easily manipulated by his wife and daughter, who use rumors and photos to discredit Luo Jin. Despite his authority, he shows deference to Gu Tangzhou, the family's true ruler, and to Chu Tiankuo, the Chu family patriarch. He is depicted as greedy, short-sighted, and obsessed with status, willing to sacrifice his adopted daughter's happiness for political gain.
