Ruler of the State of Qin during King Ping of Zhou's time. Qin was a tiny state spanning less than fifty li in radius. Duke Xiang voluntarily pledged allegiance to King Ping, who accepted eagerly out of desperate need for allies. King Ping rewarded him with an empty promise, elevating Qin from a vassal state to a feudal state and declaring that any territories in the Guanzhong region Qin could reclaim on its own would belong to it.
