Cui Suniang is Cheng Zi'an's mother and Cheng Zhen's wife. She is gentle, kind, and dotes on her son. She comes from a scholarly family; her father was a Juren who became a teacher. She cannot bear children after Cheng Zi'an's birth and shares a deep affectionate relationship with Cheng Zhen. She tries to protect Cheng Zi'an from his father's strict discipline but ultimately respects his authority.
