Also known as Uncle Cui, he is the county yamen's secretary (shiyé). He appears in his early forties with sallow skin, a thin build, and a small goatee. He has sharp, scrutinizing eyes and an imposing presence. Despite looking stern and hard to deal with, he is actually fair and gives Pu Jiaojiao a trial for the kitchen job. He warns her about the difficult children at the county school, especially the county magistrate's son.
