Clerk Bai
Also known as Bai Yu or Registrar Bai, he is the clerk of Lingchuan County who handled the sale of the old Gu family mansion. He is originally from Qingzhou and is married to a woman surnamed Xu, with one son. The system describes him as smooth-talking and greedy. He is a local powerbroker who, when he gives orders, several scholars dare not disobey. He has worked in Lingchuan County for over ten years, even longer than the county magistrate, giving him significant influence at the office. The county magistrate is strict and upright, but as long as Clerk Bai does not cross the line, the magistrate will not intervene. He is suspected of deliberately making things difficult for Gu Qingyan, possibly at the behest of the Li family, by blocking his enrollment in private schools and potentially tampering with his county exam registration. There is a rumor that he started the county's escort agency but later handed it over to someone else. Gu Qingyan plans to use Clerk Bai's greed against him.
