Chen-sao, also referred to as Sister Chen, is a military wife who accompanies Gu Qiuyue and Zhang Guilan on their shopping trip to the department store. She is described as more measured and diplomatic compared to Zhang Guilan's boldness, often trying to smooth over conflicts and calm tensions. During the shopping trip, she teases Gu Qiuyue about Deputy Xie's generosity in spending his allowance on her. When Zhang Guilan confronts Meng Hui at the restaurant, Chen-sao is present and later hurries to pull Zhang Guilan away after the confrontation, attempting to smooth things over. She also tries to calm Zhang Guilan's grumbling as they walk back to the military compound. Her presence provides a balancing contrast to Zhang Guilan's more impulsive nature, and she serves as a supportive companion to Gu Qiuyue throughout their outing.
