Cao Xiangnan's mother (A-mu), the matriarch who controls the family finances. She is described as a stingy, miserly, tightfisted old woman. She favored the eldest son Cao Fugui and spoiled the youngest son Cao Gaojin, spending heavily on his education. She allocated only a small outer room for Cao Xiangnan's family despite the house being built largely with Cao Xiangnan's wages.
