Bian Ci
The narrator and protagonist, a young man who impersonates the real Bian Ci (who died years ago). He is the son of Wen Qingshan's deceased lover and was acknowledged as Wen Qingshan's godson, becoming the third young master of the Wen family. He never changed his surname to Wen. He was originally an undercover operative but cut contact with his handler upon seeing Wen Qingshan. He survived being sold by the Jiang family to a scam syndicate, was intercepted as part of a sea shipment, and was eventually tested and taken in by Wen Yingjue. He was tortured and trained like a dog by Wen Yingjue, later taking advantage of Wen Yingjue's temporary memory loss after an assassination attempt to lie that they were lovers. He is described as sharp, resourceful, and unafraid of death. He has an old scar on his left chest from the assassination attempt on the real Bian Ci.
