Great story just confusing at times and have to reread the sentence to figure out correct gender and sometimes the name
I’m loving this story, just waiting on an update please.
Love this book
There can be no redemption for Jericho after the first couple of chapters. His character is far too awful. The writer has talent, the story line from the get go is way to twisted for me.
I need to talk about the scene where Lin Sui rides into the village office with a chicken in one hand and a duck in the other. This is one of those moments where the author just paints a picture so vivid you can see it like a movie frame. "In her hands, she carried two live poultry that squawked and clucked noisily." And then the description of Zhou Chiye: "Surrounded by rough, plain village cadres, Zhou Chiye stood out like a red-crowned crane that had wandered into a chicken coop." That metaphor alone is worth the price of admission. A red-crowned crane in a chicken coop. You can literally SEE the visual contrast. The author doesn't just tell us he's handsome and important—they show us through the eyes of everyone else in that room, whose "eyes went wide" because this guy who always looked impatient and snapped at people was actually SMILING at Lin Sui. The worldbuilding here is also doing a lot of heavy lifting. We get these tiny details that make the 1980s rural China setting feel incredibly real: the fact that there's no rural medical insurance, the village gossip spreading like wildfire, the grandmother who won't even slaughter her own chickens for her birthday but will give two away to thank someone. These aren't just set dressing—they reveal character and social dynamics. The scene where Liang Fengjiao nearly hits her daughter with a spatula is also wildly vivid. You can hear the shouting, see the chickens scattering, feel the chaos. And then the quiet moment where Grandma Lin steps in front of Lin Sui protectively—"What's all this shouting about this early in the morning?"—that shift from chaos to calm is masterful storytelling. Even the county magistrate disguised as a driver is a great worldbuilding touch. It shows you this hierarchical, interconnected system where someone's rank isn't obvious from their appearance, and the fact that "no one realized his rank" tells you everything about how power operates in this world.
Adrianna and Tristan are perfect for each other, Tristan should let go of the past and focus on his future.
