Okay so let me just say — the eavesdropping moment outside the private room is one of the smartest plot devices I've seen in a while. Wen Shanyi steps out for a phone call, and BAM, he overhears Shen Jiaojiao confessing to her dad that she and Xie Yanqing are only a contractual couple who've never shared a room. The author doesn't even make it accidental — it's literally described as "He hadn't meant to eavesdrop" but then immediately we get "No one knew the secret delight Wen Shanyi felt upon hearing those words." That line alone tells you everything about this man's character. He's not just a business rival; he's a predator who just found an opening. And then the genius move: Wen Shanyi doesn't hear the rest of the conversation where Shen Jiaojiao says she DOESN'T want to divorce Xie Yanqing. The author deliberately cuts him off there. That dramatic irony is SO well done because now we, the readers, are sitting there going "NO DON'T DO IT SHEN JIAOJIAO" while Wen Shanyi is already planning his next move. The plot then pivots beautifully into Chapter 9 where Shen Jiaojiao comes home drunk and the whole contract marriage tension explodes. Xie Yanqing's reaction to hearing about the potential divorce — the glass dropping, the chilling laugh, the way he says "You are my wife" like it's both a statement and a threat — that's peak plot escalation. Two years of contractual distance and suddenly he's not letting go. But then Chapter 10 throws in the system element with Little Black Ball, and honestly? It's a weird tonal shift but it works because it raises the stakes. The host is supposed to be the villainess but she's falling for the male lead for real, and the system is panicking. The plot is layered — there's the surface romance, the business conspiracy with the Wen family, the father's desperation, AND now this meta-layer of a system trying to force the story back on track. That's three competing narratives happening at once and the author is juggling them all.
Why is there no update. It’s ridiculous you have us spend so much money buying episodes but you don’t finish the story. I feel if you’re taking our money, you have some responsibility to your readers to complete the novel. I’m so sick and tired of spending so much money on all these unfinished novel
