Okay so this opening chapter is basically a masterclass in how to drop a reader into a completely different world without making it feel like a history textbook. June 1972, China, educated youth sent to the countryside policy — boom, you're there. But the real plot hook isn't the setting, it's the twist that Ruan Yunqiao has apparently lived this life before. "Across two lifetimes" — that's the line that made me sit up straight. She's not some naive girl getting sent off to marry a stranger; she's a woman with a second chance, evaluating her fiancé like she's shopping for a product. The plot structure here is clever because on the surface it's a simple visit-the-fiancé story, but underneath it's actually a rebirth narrative where she's gathering intel. She deliberately doesn't tell him she's coming — that's not romantic spontaneity, that's a strategic surprise inspection. And the fact that she's prepared to call her family to start matchmaking with backup candidates if he doesn't measure up? That's a woman who has options and knows it. The subtext is screaming: this isn't going to be a traditional romance where she falls head over heels. She's the one holding the power. I'm already invested because the plot is setting up a power dynamic flip that I want to see play out.

I wanna see this as a movie.
I love this book, it has a great storyline. However, it needs to be updated soon, as it has been weeks with nothing and I’m losing the thrill of the story. I hope new customers are coming very soon!
