so far im at chapter 6, but I've been hooked since chapter 2-3. I'm not prone to vampire novels because most writers come up with the somewhat same idea that takes about 20 chapters to explore and explain the concept of vampires. but I've decided to check out this one because of the time. SO I READ

I've been thinking about this image of the red bills stacked in boxes on the coffee table, and I can't get it out of my head. It's such a simple detail but it represents everything wrong with this situation. Lin Xiao opens those boxes like she's presenting a gift, but it's not really a gift—it's a transaction. Su Yundai has been living in their house for fifteen years, supported by their wealth, and now they're essentially buying her into the family with cash and a promise of marriage. The money is both protection and control, generosity and coercion, all at once. And Su Yundai's reaction to it is so telling. She's grateful, yes—she knows she needs that kind of security after losing her parents. But she's also confused and hurt, because the money comes with strings attached that she never agreed to. The engagement was decided without Wei Lin even knowing, and without asking her. It's a decision made by people who love her but don't really see her as an equal. There's also the symbolism of her father. The neighbors reduce him to "just an employee" who "saved his life," but Su Yundai knows he was a Tsinghua graduate, a singer, a brilliant man whose life was cut short at thirty. The wealth that saved her family also diminished his legacy. She's caught between gratitude and resentment, and that tension runs through everything she does. The most powerful symbolic moment though is when Wei Lin changes his surname to his mother's. Why do that? What does it mean? Is he rejecting his father's legacy? Honoring his mother? Or is he trying to distance himself from something—maybe from the Wei family's expectations, maybe from the role he's been playing his whole life? The author is weaving these symbols so carefully and I'm obsessed with what they'll all mean by the end.
beautifully written with the sensual parts as well. hope Bay will also get jealous to the point it will drive him crazy. hahaha
