Liking the story so far
I like this novel very much. Good writing, good story plot.
Love love love, this book and can’t wait to see where it continues to go. Thank you to Sara for gracing us with Ayla’s story!
I loved this book. It made me laugh and cry. I have been reading a lot of your books. Just can’t get enough.
I need to talk about Song Tingzhou because this character absolutely wrecked me in the best way. On the surface he's this quiet, bookish guy who comes home, puts down his basket, asks one question about grinding beans, and leaves. But the author keeps slipping in these tiny moments that completely reframe everything. Like when he soaks the soybeans early in the morning before his mother even wakes up, and she catches him and says “You're showing off how capable you are!” That's not anger—that's a mother who's watching her son try to carry weight he doesn't need to carry. And then he quotes this classical line about gentlemen avoiding the kitchen, and Meng Wan laughs because he knows it's an excuse. But what's underneath? Song Tingzhou is a student in a world that values practical survival, and he's finding his place between those two worlds. His relationship with Meng Wan is also fascinating—it starts with this quiet gratitude, that “thank you” that Meng Wan secretly wanted to hear. And now look at them: Meng Wan is being recruited for the wedding, Song Tingzhou is eating the tofu he made, Chang Jinhua is treating him like family. The Aunt Tian conversation where she compliments Meng Wan's “big round bottom” made me spit out my tea. Meng Wan silently retreating to touch his own backside—that's such a perfect character beat. He's embarrassed but also secretly pleased that he's being seen as a good match. And then the fourth sister-in-law showing up and immediately demanding the thick blanket while looking around like a guest who's entitled to your best room—that character introduction alone tells you there's going to be friction. The author is setting up a new conflict just by having these people interact.
Amazing book!
wonderful book. I love every minute of it.
Good job, need to read it as soon as possible
I can not even make it through 9 chapters. It is totally confusing and muddled. Why anyone would think that a story that starts this way is cute is beyond me. I will not be reading any further.
start to this book is great cant wait for more!!
I just loved it. Thanks for this amazing story and looking forward for more such awesome work.
