The sensory overload in these first chapters is unreal. Let me just start with the opening line: "Crack! Pop! Bang!" Firecrackers. Suona horns. The noise "crashed into her ears like a death sentence being announced." This is a wedding celebration happening outside while the protagonist is waking up bleeding in a dilapidated room. The contrast is so sharp it's almost cinematic. Joy on the surface, horror underneath. That's the entire novel in one image. And the details! The coarse hemp rope. The battered old dressing table. The thick scent of blood. The embroidery needle glinting in dim light. The bridal veil embroidered with mandarin ducks—"looked unbearably tacky." These aren't just decorative descriptions; they build a world that feels lived-in and real. You can smell the room. You can hear the suona horns muffled through the walls. You can feel the rough rope cutting into wrists. The visual of Nanny Wang getting launched through the air and crashing into the canopy bed is one of those moments that just sticks with me. The bed shakes violently. The wooden frame snaps apart. She rolls across broken boards like a slaughtered pig. It's grotesque and darkly satisfying at the same time. The author has a gift for action imagery that's both brutal and almost comical in its excess. Sang Rourou's entrance is another highlight. She's dressed in "an extravagant butterfly-patterned gown woven from priceless cloud brocade. The jewels adorning her hair chimed softly with every step." She's wearing MORE jewelry than the actual bride. This single detail tells you everything about the power dynamics in this household without a single word of exposition. The fake daughter is already living like the real heiress, and she's proud of it. The Marquis's residence feels like a place where wealth and rot coexist. Porcelain shelves. Cloud brocade. Expensive jewelry. But also dilapidated rooms, coarse ropes, and a broken bed frame. This is a family built on stolen money and stolen identity, and the setting reflects that perfectly.

I absolutely despise this author (but not really) Their writing drags me through the full gamut of emotions: feeling everything Alpha's Blind Luna made me lose my damn mind. I have to psyche myself up to read each book but I never regret it
