Three sentences. That's all it took for Xu Jin to shatter everything Song Nian was holding onto. And the worst part? She still thanked him. After he basically told her he felt nothing, she said thank you for marrying me like that was enough. Like being rescued from a terrible fate was a substitute for being chosen. The emotional journey here is devastating because it's so quiet. There's no screaming, no dramatic confrontations. Song Nian just... absorbs it. She curls her toes nervously. She forces a smile. She turns her back to him and lies perfectly still while her heart is probably exploding. The text says her body was tense but she slept through the night anyway — that's not weakness, that's this incredible, almost painful resilience. And Xu Jin? He's not a villain. That's what makes this so painful. He's honest about his feelings, he treats her with respect, he gives her money and freedom and doesn't force anything on her. He's just... empty. Two years after his brother's death, carrying the weight of his family line, and he can't pretend to feel something he doesn't. The CP chemistry right now is basically zero, which sounds bad but is actually perfect. Because this isn't a fast-burn romance — it's a slow burn where every tiny crack in his armor will matter so much later.
