its interesting to read
The description of the courtyard house is so vivid I can literally see it. The brick-carved screen wall, the grape arbor, the flowers in full summer bloom - cockscomb, sage, touch-me-not, evening primrose. And then the little corner where the father planted his herbs and chili peppers and Sichuan pepper trees. This isn't just set dressing, this is character revelation through environment. The father was a chef, so even his gardening has a culinary purpose. He's thinking about flavor, about practicality, about making the most of what he has. The layout itself tells a story - three rooms on each side, the main rooms facing the screen wall, the kitchen converted from one of the west wing rooms. This is a family that built something from nothing, that worked hard, that made smart choices. And the fact that Ning Xin is standing in this courtyard, looking at these flowers, feeling the July sun on her face after being discharged from the hospital - it's such a perfect visual metaphor. She's been through trauma, she's been injured, but she's still here, still standing, still able to appreciate the simple beauty of a flower bed. The worldbuilding here is subtle but effective. We're not getting exposition dumps about the historical period or the political situation, we're getting it through the physical space Ning Xin inhabits. The courtyard is a character in itself.
So excited for the second book. Love the story...

It’s so good n refreshing novel. Look forward to more chapters. It’s amazing
Amazing book! I loved it so much. The ending was a way better than I expected. And I hope I’ll be able to purchase a paperback version
I loved this story but there needs to be a lot more. Seems rushed and unfinished. Very disappointed. No conclusions, the attacker never found, marriage, children, love story unfinished.
This book is very interesting, not like those 1000 chapters books, nice one author
