I gave it a 4. beginning to mid was amazing, however ending was wack especially when it could have been soo much more to it. A twist with the other super naturals and her mate could have made it more surprising, thriller, and awesome come back would have been nice. But got stuck with the rush.

I've been thinking about this house. The Su family house. What it represents. It's not just a building — it's the physical manifestation of everything these characters are fighting over. The Lin family wanted it. They wanted to buy it back when Su Xiaoyin married. They calculated its value, planned to reclaim it. And Su Xiaoyin just... sold it. To Widow Liu, of all people. Which is both a practical move and a symbolic middle finger to the entire Lin family system. "Xiaoyin girl sold this house to me, she, ah, went to the town to live in a big courtyard." When Lin Limei hears this, "something collapse" inside her. Not just disappointment — something deeper. The house represented order, hierarchy, the Lin family's place at the top. Su Xiaoyin selling it to a widow — someone they all look down on — upends that entire worldview. And Yuan Songzhi's leg. The text keeps returning to the idea of him being a "cripple" and whether he can walk again. But I think the real question the story is asking is: what does it mean to be whole? Su Xiaoyin has no family support, no house, no status. Yuan Songzhi can't walk. Together they're in a damp, cramped room with nothing. But that's where they're warm. That's where they're honest. The original Su family in the brigade is "turned upside down" the moment Su Xiaoyin leaves. The house was holding their world together, and now it's gone.

I hate that so many writers make characters that are highly intelligent throughout 95% or more of a story seem completely dumb or brain dead simply because they want the characters to simply not realize something like Empress Elora calling David by Davey and princess Evie didn't notice... annoying
