I have so much respect for how this author handles pacing. You go from Mu Shuiqi sobbing by a crimson lake, convinced she's died before, to literally minutes later fighting five monsters for her life, to afterwards eating an absurd amount of pork and cabbage dumplings while her demon companion burps happily. The tonal whiplash is real but it WORKS. The battle sequence itself is well-structured too—she starts weak and disoriented, takes damage, hits a low point where the beasts are about to finish her, then pulls out the fire chains move and turns the tide. Bingyou and Yi Yao's commentary from the sidelines adds tension without resolving it for her. And then the chapter ends with Qi Lie showing up like "so uh, want to be an official?" after she's just been gnawing on lamb ribs. The transitions are sharp but they keep you turning pages because each beat lands differently. No dragging, no rushing—just controlled chaos.
