I need to talk about the single most chaotic sentence in this entire chapter and what it did to the plot. Su Yundai, in a moment of pure panic, blurts out: "Number one on the list of Asia's Most Desired Man five years running." She's quoting some fan account description of Mo Chisheng and Shang Beize hears it as "who do you most want to sleep with?" And his reaction? His face cracks. Dark clouds. Teeth gritted. He forces out through clenched teeth: "Say it again. Who do you most want to sleep with?" This is the plot turning point of the entire arc. Up until now, Shang Beize has been the controlled, cold, calculating one. He doesn't show emotion. He doesn't lose composure. But the idea that the girl he's been subtly claiming — who sleeps in his house, who he tutors, who he lets stay in his bedroom — has this celebrity crush? It UNMAKES him. Immediately after, he calls Mo Chisheng. Not to talk. To threaten. "Come out. Do me a favor." He wants to STUDY how to become the man she desires. That line alone should be framed. Meanwhile, the subplot with Wei Lin is quietly building. He offers her the company, her father's debts hang over everything, and now he's giving her expensive gifts. The plot is setting up a classic love triangle but with the added layer of financial dependency that makes it way more interesting than usual. Su Yundai isn't just choosing between two guys — she's choosing between safety/obligation (Wei Lin) and desire/fear (Shang Beize). And the Mo Chisheng concert subplot? She cancels on Wei Lin to stay and study with Shang Beize instead. Classic misdirection — she thinks she's being responsible but really she's just swapping one obligation for another while her heart stays somewhere else. The plot is layered like this and I'm here for it.
Let me just say this pacing is insane. Chapter 10 starts with Shen Shuli literally vomiting bile over a toilet, Fu Yanci watching her with suspicion, asking if she took her pill. Then boom—she pivots to ‘I have gastritis' like it's nothing. The transition from physical illness to emotional illness to marital deception in three paragraphs? That's tight. Then Chapter 11 hits you with the elevator encounter between Fu Yanci and Mu Huaixu—two men who clearly share a history with the same woman, standing in this tiny confined space, trading threats like it's a tennis match. ‘You're not worthy.' ‘Who's really about to be left defenseless?' I was leaning forward. And then Chapter 12 drops the press conference bombshell right after the café confrontation. It's like the author knows we need a breather but also knows we're not ready to stop reading. The cliffhanger at the end—Shen Shuli checking Bai Jinghong's social media while wearing the necklace—perfect. Just perfect. I need to know what she finds. The structure here is basically: intimate crisis, public declaration, hidden past, looming threat, and the protagonist armed with nothing but a phone and a suspicion. That's a recipe for obsession.
This entire passage is about hair. Not just hair as decoration but hair as a metaphor for everything these women are trying to hold together. The elaborate hairstyles—Peony Buns, Tiaoxin Buns, false hair pads, silver-gilt pins—are literally the structures that hold their social identities in place. When Madam Fang's hair falls apart, it's not just a fashion disaster. It's the collapse of her carefully constructed facade. The hairpins scattering on the ground, all identical, all unmarked—that's the entire middle-class performance of status in miniature. They're all wearing the same things, claiming the same achievements, but desperately trying to appear unique. The mirror scene is also loaded. Madam Fang complains the bronze mirror is "too dim" and Nie Qinghe thinks about making a mercury mirror but decides against it. The cloudy bronze mirror distorts her face, making her look larger. It's a literal and figurative distortion—she's seeing herself through the warped lens of her own ambition. The mercury mirror, which would show a clearer reflection, represents truth, but Nie Qinghe wisely avoids it. Sometimes clarity is dangerous. And then there's the engraving scene. Nie Qinghe offers to mark their jewelry so they don't get mixed up again. The women resist because it costs extra. This is the whole economy of their social world—everything has a price, even identity. They'd rather risk humiliation than spend twenty or thirty extra coppers. The theme here is that the performance of status is exhausting and expensive, but stopping the performance is unthinkable. The recurring imagery of things falling apart—hairpins clattering, buns collapsing, reputations crumbling—is the author's way of saying: this whole system is fragile. It only takes one wasp cry and one shove for everything to come undone.
I love the story so far. It's a great read and love the chemistry of characters. Dialogues and prompts are well written, keep me hooks to the end of the chapter. Plus, the banters are too good which made me laugh. Great work, author ?
Obligatory Author-Review Here!This is a story that gives equal weight to both sides of this bond - a werewolf who doesn't want to be with a vampire, and a vampire who doesn't want his destiny to be tied to anyone else. Both of them will need to go through a lot of struggles before they will be able to understand each other, much less trust each other. In other words, this story is such a slow burn, it's basically a few stray sparks that are smoking ominously in a pile of damp moss. In addition to the main romance, this story also includes a small cast of side characters, and has a lot of world building connected to the development of the main pair's romance. So, if you're someone who enjoys the politics and intrigue of a high fantasy world as much as the romance between characters, this might be the story for you!The story is currently updating on a weekly basis (because this is not my full-time job T.T), but I might be tempted to update more often if I get more reviews, comments, or power stones! :D If you have any questions or comments that you'd like me to respond to, feel free to reply to this review, and I'll do my best to get back to you as soon as I can!

The story is beautifully written, it is very immersive and the world building is very interesting. It is a little slow paced at the beginning, but it was worth the wait to Sollivan awakening. Highly recommended, and kudos to the Author ?
Story is well written, and has quite a bit of future potential. Just remember this though, if you yourself, enjoy writing your stories, then that is the one thing that should matter the most more then anything else. Sometimes, it is not about any sort of money or payment, but should in fact, always be about enjoying sharing your work with your viewers and fans. And that, should always take priority, because if your fans and viewers enjoy reading your work, as well as potential future generations, then that is the one thing, that should matter more to you then anything else. For you see, people are more concerned in living in the here and now. While people me, we like to have a more, long game in mind. Now, don't take this as some sort of negative by any means, I am just saying, that if we want future generations to enjoy this world, then we have to be willing to protect what we love, in an effort to do our best to better our future.
I advice you read all the free chapters first before anything. It's a very good story that gets you hyped and anticipating the next chapter. I like the MC too and the demon. Please don't drop this author
Damn, it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever read in my life, despite my long career in the field of psychological horror, from games to novels to series. Your novel was one of the best experiences, and you also didn't neglect the rest of the aspects of Rose and Gabriel's relationship. It was nice and very ideal??????
