The river scene is absolutely cinematic. I can't stop thinking about how the author builds this entire sequence from the moment Yang Zhaodi grabs Lin Xiazhi by the ear to the splash of bodies hitting the water. Let me break down why this works so well. First there's the courtyard confrontation with Wang Chuntao screaming about her stolen silver, then the violent dragging toward the village entrance, and finally the river itself becomes this liminal space where everything changes. The text describes the water with such vivid detail: 'Splash! Splash! Two bodies plunged into the river.' And then the darkness beneath the surface where Lin Xiazhi is quietly shoving Yang Zhaodi's head underwater. That image of her 'enjoying herself in the water' while hidden by darkness is so powerful. It's this moment of transformation where she stops being the victim and starts fighting back. Then Mu Zheng appears like some kind of dark savior figure, cutting through the current with 'Long limbs. Powerful strokes. Fast.' The torchlight illuminating his face, his cold expression, the soaked ponytail clinging to his neck. This is pure atmosphere. The river becomes this symbolic space where the old Lin Xiazhi drowns and something new emerges.
