I need to talk about the typhoon scene because I literally cannot stop thinking about it. The way the author builds this whole oppressive atmosphere—the howling wind, the lightning, the storm mirroring Huo Zhixing's inner chaos—then BAM, he wakes up from that nightmare and his first instinct is to grab Su Jiuyue by the throat. Blood-red eyes. Killing intent. She's staring death in the face and she makes the most heartbreaking choice: she stops fighting. Instead of saving herself, she wraps her arms around his neck and presses a kiss to his furrowed brow while whispering 'It's me. I'm Jiuyue. Your wife. The one you saved.' And then—then—a single tear lands on his hand and something breaks open in him. This is the kind of emotional beat that makes you throw the book across the room because it's so devastatingly tender. The fact that she could have saved herself by using acupuncture on his vital points, but she chooses not to because she knows it would cripple him forever... that's love. Not the cute, sparkly kind, but the kind where you'd rather almost die than hurt the person you love. And Huo Zhixing? He's been trapped in this cycle of violence and trauma for so long that the first time someone chooses him over self-preservation, it literally short-circuits his beast mode. I'm not crying, you're crying.
The core idea of the story is undeniably original, but its potential is hindered by poor execution. The author struggles to create a profound narrative with memorable characters; unfortunately, many die off within the first 20 to 40 chapters, without sufficient character growth. The story attempts to offer an all-encompassing view of evolution, but it often relies on recycled concepts, like Vibranium from Black Panther, without much innovation. Long stretches of exposition bog down the pacing, and the antagonists come across as foolish and overconfident. It appears that when the author runs out of fresh ideas, they resort to formulaic plot devices to prop up the protagonist. A well-executed version of this story could have been exceptional, but the current version suffers from an excessive focus on filling the word count to boost earnings, which feels like a cheap tactic rather than a genuine passion for storytelling. While I understand the practical aspects, it's disappointing to see minimal effort put into crafting a compelling narrative.
Many readers dislike the novel due to a sudden shift in tone in Volume 1, but as an ardent fan who has followed it through to the after-story, I understand that it defies conventional norms while still adhering to certain principles. Here are some key points to clarify:
1. It's not a dark tale: Although some compare it to renowned works like "The Heroic Heroine's Sidejob," Arifureta possesses a darker edge, but the author restrains it by introducing the "I want to go home" wish early on and having a supporting female character. The protagonist's primary goal is to return home with his treasure, not seeking revenge, which keeps the story from becoming overly dark.
2. Multiple plot twists: Initially, readers assumed the protagonist would become increasingly sinister, but the heroine's presence mitigates these changes. Later, the MC showcases badassery, but another heroine intervenes, leading to disappointment and attrition among readers.
3. Focus on love and protection: The MC evolves into a protector, showering love on those he cares about, embodying a devoted husband-like persona, in my personal view.
4. A turning point: The catalyst for his protective nature is his teacher's observation about the loneliness of living solely with loved ones. Believing he cannot survive in modern life that way, he unintentionally starts protecting his surroundings.
In summary, while the story might not adhere to typical expectations, it offers a unique blend of elements, with the protagonist's journey shaped by his relationships and desire for a fulfilling life.
Well, personally, I believe this series stands out significantly above average when compared to typical psycho stories from adjacent narratives. The main reason lies in the author's choice to take the re:summoning route instead of the reset route. Here's why:
1. Character Abilities:
- Re:summoning: Only the protagonist had his powers reset; everyone else maintained their existing abilities. This preserved their individual strengths.
- Reset: In the reset scenario, all characters (including the MC) had their powers taken away, which could potentially include an unfair advantage for the MC.
2. Betrayal Dynamics:
- Re:summoning: The MC knew he was betrayed, and those involved were already "culprits" when he returned. They were aware of their actions.
- Reset: The betrayal was only known to the MC in the reset scenario, leaving others unaware of their future actions, thus maintaining their innocence.
3. Antagonist Awareness:
- Re:summoning: The antagonist understood the MC's intentions and actively worked to stop him, making for a more intense conflict.
- Reset: The antagonist might have recognized the MC, but lacked knowledge of his plan, making them more passive and vulnerable.
Regarding the MC's personality, despite being betrayed, he remained fundamentally good. He channeled his anger into specific targets rather than lashing out randomly.
As for my criticisms, I'm currently at a loss for words, but I'll refine my thoughts later when editing this review.
so he isn't an adult in a child's body? if that is the case then what is the point of regressing if he doesn't get to keep his memories?
Updated- I love this but the pacing between the main leads romance is Soo slow unfortunately I'm already invested- wish I found this a couple of months later so that I could binge read, but it's cute kinda reminds me of legendary master's wife
So, there's not even the slightest possibility of this ever coming back?
