Okay so let me just say this: the author absolutely knew what they were doing with the pacing of this marriage registration scene. Twenty minutes at the civil affairs bureau, but it reads like a whole chapter of emotional weight. Jiang Wan in a plain white blouse, no makeup, and somehow still more radiant than anyone else in the room — that detail alone tells you everything about her character. She doesn't need embellishment. Meanwhile Gu Shilan is dropping mixed-heritage reveals like it's nothing, and the clerk's reaction ('No wonder!') is such a perfect little beat that makes the whole scene feel lived-in and real. But here's what really got me: the phone scene. Gu Shilan 'borrows' her phone, types in her birthday to unlock it (which, by the way, is either the most romantic or most creepy detail depending on your perspective — I'm still not sure which), and then casually blocks Jiang Yi. Done. No explanation, no dramatic announcement. Just... done. And Jiang Wan, sitting right there, turns her face to the window like a good student and pretends she didn't notice. The tension between what she knows and what she chooses not to say is chef's kiss. The subplot with Jiang Yi getting cut off from raw materials is the kind of background threat that makes you lean forward. The author doesn't overexplain — we just know the factory is in trouble and Jiang Yi is desperate enough to show up at Gu Shilan's office with bribes. That's efficient storytelling. One scene, one gesture, and you understand the entire power dynamic shift.
The structure of this section is genuinely clever and I want to dissect it because the author does something really smart with the time jump. We open with Lin Shuying already four years into her 'quiet cultivation.' The chapter immediately drops us into the middle of her garden experiment, shows us the results (the orchid she's healing, the strawberries that became a brand), and only THEN goes back to explain how she got here. This is reverse chronology done right—show the miracle first, then reveal the method. The transition from the temple confrontation scene to the garden scene is where it gets interesting. The temple scene ends with Xiao Shengrui in the carriage, thinking about agricultural books. Then we get this marker: 'Yongchang Fourteenth Year, Spring.' Four years have passed. The author doesn't waste time showing us the transition—the strawberry success, the business deal with Moqian, the daily routines. We get vignettes. A paragraph about the orchid. A paragraph about the strawberries. A paragraph about the peony crisis. It's efficient storytelling at its finest. But here's what I think is the real structural masterstroke: the peony problem at the end. The chapter starts with Lin Shuying successfully healing an orchid with her Wood Spirit Root. She's confident. She's skilled. And then we cut to the front hall where a priceless imperial peony is dying, and the gardener says it'll take 'ten days to half a month' to recover. The Empress's sister—Consort Lin Yueyao—is coming to visit. The stakes just escalated from 'pretty flower' to 'political disaster.' The pacing here is like a rollercoaster that dips and rises. We get relief (the orchid is saved), then tension (the peony is dying), then a cliffhanger (what will she do?). The author understands that after four years of showing us Lin Shuying's competence, the real drama comes when even she might not be able to fix something immediately.
I was pulled in by the synopsis and was thoroughly overjoyed by what I read. I feel like there is a back story here that will only add to this amazing piece , and afterward, or continuation would be awesome.

The book just has one chapter right now but looks pretty damn promising. Best of luck author
While 'Kente' offers a unique premise, the pacing felt uneven at times. Certain chapters were densely packed with information, making it challenging to stay engaged. A more balanced distribution of plot development and character exploration could enhance the reading experience.
Well written, not a lot of America Football ones in here. This is a good one so far at chapter 20.
