Not even fifty yuan spent. That single detail tells you everything about who these kids are. They're not spoiled. They're not entitled. They're children who have grown up with scarcity and it shows. And Mo Fei's reaction—putting on this terrible performance about being heartbroken—felt so real. She's not just a mom, she's someone who understands how to work with kids who have been trained to be careful with money. The moment where Jianian reveals he's been paying attention to the news, watching the disaster reports, discussing ground fissures with classmates—that's such a sharp character beat. This kid is way more aware than he lets on. And Jiayue, sweet simple Jiayue, remembering that Mom wanted to buy Grandma a quilt and Grandpa tea because she'd shown them photos every year on her birthday. That detail about the birthday photos hit me hard. It means Mo Fei has been carrying grief alone and the kids have been witnessing it silently. Their relationship with each other is also lovely—they take turns shouting at customers, they hold hands when they hear about the dog attack, they immediately understand the secret about the superpower without freaking out. The trust between them and Mo Fei is the emotional backbone of this whole story and it's genuinely well done.
