I eventually subscribed to the translator's Patreon as the content became incredibly engaging. The compelling storytelling and translation left me eager for more. Currently, my favorite character is the school doctor – his interactions with FL create an unusual yet captivating flutter in my heart.
This interest seems to have originated during the first arc when he discovered FL's distinct identity after the original soul returned. I had this sudden realization, "Oh my, he knows!" My excitement reached new heights when they met again in a different body in a subsequent arc – my ship sailed full speed ahead. However, I've come across reviews stating that there won't be a true romantic storyline, which leaves me a bit disappointed.
This narrative bears a resemblance to "Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil," prompting inevitable comparisons. Despite the similarity, "Quickly" offers a more extensive and intricate plot, whereas this story lacks finesse and includes unnecessary details. For instance, the scene where the protagonist asks the male lead about a plant they encountered on an island, only for the ML to admit ignorance, feels irrelevant and serves no clear purpose.
Moreover, unlike "Quickly," the protagonist here encounters fewer challenges, almost as if fate is overly favorable to him. His encounters with adversity often resolve swiftly due to his and the ML's power, leading to instances where the story feels stretched for length solely to emphasize the ML's affection. This makes the protagonist appear more passive, akin to a mob figure or an observer rather than an active participant.
As an avid reader of many BL stories, this particular novel occasionally frustrated me with its predictability and reliance on clichés. At times, I found myself considering dropping it, but my completionist tendencies kept me going, hoping for a redemption arc. Alas, that didn't always happen.
On the positive side, the male lead shines, mirroring the possessive and devoted traits found in "Quickly." He is easily identifiable, which is a plus. However, the protagonist himself is a classic overpowered character, making it predictable and less engaging.
Additionally, some supporting characters lack depth, appearing without emotional impact, serving mainly as plot devices for the protagonist's journey.
In conclusion, this story isn't terrible but falls short of greatness. There's potential for improvement, but it's a middling read at best.
