The description of him 'devouring the food like a storm, his chopsticks never stopping' while 'swallowing the smooth, chilled dragon fish skin' is one of the most sensory passages I've read. You can taste the fish. You can feel the relief of a lawyer who's been eating oily, unsalted construction site cafeteria food for three consecutive months finally experiencing something that isn't culinary punishment. The fact that Han Xiaojing, Pingping, and An'an watch him 'dumbfounded' adds this perfect comedic beat — three kids witnessing an adult completely lose his composure over good food. Then there's the detention center scene. The author doesn't give us a full description of the facility, but Zhang Xiufang's complaints are so specific they paint the picture: 'The food here is bad, the sleeping is bad, the clothes are bad.' It's the universal language of complaint, and it immediately makes you understand why she's terrified. This isn't a dramatic prison break scenario — it's a middle-aged woman who's never been anywhere without comfort, facing the prospect of losing her freedom. The Yang family home is another space that feels lived-in. We know Yang Zhigang has a large boat (the biggest in Jinshan Bay), that they keep gold bars as a rainy-day fund, that there's a new boat with monthly payments. These aren't just details — they're the economic infrastructure of this world. Fishing isn't a hobby here; it's a high-stakes business with real financial pressure. And Han Xiaorui's plan to open an ornamental fish shop near the Maternal and Child Health Hospital — that's worldbuilding at its finest. The author is showing us a woman who understands her environment, who knows where the traffic is, who's strategically positioning herself in a community she's choosing to build rather than one she was born into. The hospital location isn't random; it's calculated. This is a woman building a life, not just surviving one.
