It's pretty good. I'm going to guess English isn't the author's first language, but if there's editing being done there shouldn't be as many or any grammatical errors as there were. Also, changing the characters POV more often would have been good. And not confusing the characters.

I know this isn't a romance novel and I'm not here for CP shipping, but there are moments in this text that just... got me. The ox cart uncle refusing the candy at first, hiding his hands behind his back, and then finally accepting when Lin Kexin appeals to his grandsons. That small exchange—her insisting he take it, him reluctantly agreeing, her promising to bring vegetables next time so he doesn't lose out—this is the kind of human warmth that makes a story breathe. And the dinner scene, honestly. After everything—rebirth, black market deals, building a home from nothing—sitting down with people you've helped, watching them eat with genuine relish, hearing them say "Only educated youths are this generous"... it hits different. Yunying's relief when she realizes Lin Kexin didn't leave them unprepared. The way everyone chips in to split the four yuan bill because none of them want to be a burden. These are the moments that make you care about people, not just plot. And then Liu Xuewei ruins it, which of course she does, but even that conflict feels emotionally honest—jealousy, resentment, the ugly side of communal living. It's all so real.
