It was a great book
decent story. not updated enough though
stories like this are good to watch not read so not preferable for me (too much explanation I'd rather not read it)
I need to talk about the alleyway scene because it absolutely wrecked me. Lin Kexin runs until she can't breathe, hides among strangers, and then just... collapses. She laughs and then sobs, shaking all over. The author writes: 'She remembered the hardships she endured last life: the hunger, the toil, the letters only sent when her adoptive parents needed food or money.' This is the emotional core of the entire story right here. It's not just about revenge or survival—it's about a girl who spent her entire childhood begging for love from people who saw her as furniture. And the line that killed me: 'Her family was the Lin family, and she wouldn't let a little grain destroy their bond.' She was so starved for belonging that she rationalized abuse as love. That's not devotion—that's trauma bonding, and the fact that she only just realized it in this moment? Devastating. The passage about her childhood is where the emotional weight really accumulates. Five years old, doing all the household chores, frostbite on her hands in winter, the pain and itching returning when it warmed up. Nine years old, the principal offering free tuition, and her adoptive mother refusing because she'd lose a worker. These details aren't just plot points—they're emotional landmines that the author places carefully, one after another, until you can barely breathe. But then—and this is what makes the story work—she doesn't stay broken. She wipes her tears and walks back with 'confidence and determination.' The emotional arc from victim to someone who's done crying is so satisfying. And honestly, I think that's what makes readers invest in her. We're not just watching her get revenge; we're watching her finally, truly, see herself.
