The structure of this excerpt is really smart. It opens at maximum tension—Wu Qiao confronting Zhao Yunsheng, Pei Hechuan revealing they're married, the whole public scene. Then it immediately pivots to something completely different: a flat tire, a annoyed mother, a grumpy father figure. That tonal whiplash is intentional and it works. Chapter 15 is basically one long scene that moves from the confrontation → the bike incident → the walk home → Pei Hechuan's bitter internal monologue at the gate. It's a lot of ground to cover, but the author keeps it moving by constantly shifting the power dynamic. First Wu Qiao has power, then Zhao Yunsheng, then Pei Hechuan takes over, then Yuanbao rebels, then Zhao Yunsheng reclaims control by sending Deng Lijun with wine as a way to buy her freedom. Chapter 16 shifts to domestic space—the kitchen, the wine delivery, Deng Lijun's awkward mission. This is where the pacing slows down deliberately. We get to know Pei Hechuan's family dynamics through his uncle, which adds depth without info-dumping. The scene with Ji Jianmin is short but efficient—we learn about his background, his family's expectations, and his complicated feelings about Jiang Min all in one conversation. Then Chapter 17 ends on a cliffhanger—Zhao Yunsheng running into Wu Qiao again. The author is clearly building toward another confrontation, and the fact that she 'hadn't sent Yuanbao to daycare' and 'kept him with her instead' suggests she's been on edge all day. That detail alone makes me want to keep reading. The chapter transitions are smooth but not predictable. Sometimes we cut to a new scene mid-action, sometimes we get a full moment of reflection. It feels organic rather than formulaic.
Every single story in the Six Pack sequel is better than the last and Alpha Chase does not disappoint. His story is excited, deeply emotional and hot. Highly recommended

I keep coming back to this line and I can't stop thinking about it: "We worked together. Working together, Xiaoshu is happy." Just... that simple. They're exhausted, sweating, dragging bamboo through the forest, and Mao Xiaoshu's happiness isn't about the result or the reward. It's about the COMPANIONSHIP. Qin Ziheng notices this and the narrative says he was "inevitably a bit moved." Because he recognizes something in himself — his own childhood happiness when Grandpa was alive, working hard but feeling content because someone was there with him. The whole meat soup scene is devastating in its own way. Mao Xiaoshu hasn't eaten in two days — he went into the mountains the day before to find meat for Qin Ziheng's fever, came back late, and didn't eat because he was too scared to go out again. His stomach growls and when caught, he says "That was Xiaoshu passing gas" and then doubles down with "Because Xiaoshu is different. Xiaoshu passes gas with his stomach." Qin Ziheng doesn't expose him. He plays along. "Xiaoshu is so impressive." He creates an excuse — "I don't have much appetite" — so Mao Xiaoshu can eat without feeling like he's taking something from someone who's sick. This is tenderness in its most careful form. Not dramatic confessions but the quiet act of letting someone else have what they need while preserving their dignity.
