The slice-of-life narrative offers a decent portrayal, but the main character (MC) feels robotic, adhering to predetermined behaviors in specific situations. When there's no compelling reason for them to act, they display a lack of emotion and initiative, resulting in a rather dull persona. Their true identity seems non-existent.
The story itself is rather formulaic, with the system playing a dominant role in driving the plot. Without the system, the MC is insignificant, and their existence is void of purpose. However, this isn't necessarily a negative point, as it aligns with the expectations of the genre I'm familiar with.
Haha. Well, I believe the book's greatest strengths lie in its relatable characters and immersive setting. Despite being a superhero tale, it maintains a grounded feel. Although I won't call it a spoiler, I'll mention a few plot points since I'll be discussing them.
In terms of the romantic aspects, I found them somewhat disruptive to the main plot. The established relationship didn't seem to generate any real spark or chemistry, which was a bit disappointing for me.
Choi Yichan's storyline involving unrequited love could have driven his actions effectively, even without a romantic resolution. However, once that part concluded, the story lost momentum.
Additionally, I sensed that the romance was more of a checklist item in a slice-of-life narrative rather than a genuine plot driver. The ending, in particular, felt unnecessarily drawn out. If the story had ended with everyone waking up on the cafe's reopening day, I believe it would have provided a satisfactory conclusion, instead of stretching it over ten chapters.
Nonetheless, I genuinely appreciate the novel and recognize the exceptional translation by Cabin Four Translations. I hope you enjoy it!
I find this narrative both captivating and intriguing, simultaneously. The author skillfully drops hints about the main character's mysterious past, leaving readers eager to uncover the reasons behind his cold exterior and the looming sense of doom. And, of course, the addition of five princesses adds an unexpected twist. Although the journey might be filled with ups and downs, it's definitely worth embarking on. I must commend SacredText/Fenrir for their outstanding translation. In essence, I'd urge, "Why wait? Dive right in!"
Typically, I'm not someone who indulges in reviewing or reading novels late at night, but this one has truly captured my interest. The writing is exceptional, and I find myself deeply engaged in the relationship between the main character (MC) and the male lead (ML). What sets this apart is how well the ML understands the MC's struggles with her family and actively supports her – he's a genuinely kind and likable character, unlike many other MLs in other stories.
I can wholeheartedly cheer for the MC and empathize with her challenges, especially since I've experienced similar treatment with my cousins, not siblings. I highly recommend this novel to anyone willing to give it a chance, even though I'm only on chapter 33. It's already a hidden gem, and I'm confident it will be a 10/10 once I finish it. In fact, I anticipate rereading it, making it a top priority on my reading list.
Just to be brutally honest... it's an ok novel.
No wow factor, no new flavor, nothing. It's giving "generic". It depends whether you find "generic" a (+) or (-). In some ways it is somewhat predictable, from the plot to the characters (their personalities).
Characterization could use more work to make the characters feel more "real" (subjectively speaking). Perhaps I'm just tired with the tropes used in this novel given how common these elements are to the point that I must say it's overused. I can't tolerate some illogical aspects (narrative wise).
Author needs further development in the aspect of conceptualization, so as to avoid resorting to incorporating cliché. I need more layers to the plot, characters, and overall elements of the narrative. This may have potential, but serious work needs to be done.
To summarize, I find this novel no different than the tens of the same genre and plot... average. It's not bad but it is definitely lacking in some key aspects.

This book used to be used in my top five until I saw how rushed the ending was we didn’t even get to see the fight that has been hyped at for like 600 chps.
