The gears hummed in the door as it slowly slid upward.
Then , Jake came and helped me up and I didn't really feel like blushing that time but then, he was blushing making me blush too! makes no sense right? So he said "so, b-bye" it felt so embarrassing for us AGAIN! and my heart was pounding super fast again when I reached back to my table that forgot about the queen and Jessica was starring at me saying "you felt in love with him did you?" I said "maybe I did, wait a minute, am I in... l-love?" Jessica was screaming so loud that it was hurting everyone's ear drums by now because she was thinking that Jake would be my boyfriend or whatever and I closed her mouth by stuffing a sandwich in her mouth (it was not easy to do cause her mouth was bigger than the sandwich so I placed 5 sandwiches in her mouth) and I skipped the afternoon classes and my excuse was saying I was sick.
"Paul couldn't do it right , I mean he loves Nat beside he cannot hurt girls, right?" Martin asked as if he was asking for assurance
The title of this novel is literally the thesis statement and I am here for it. Su Zhirou thinks she's the mantis—scheming, lurking behind Su Qing, trying to strike. She sends Li Jianjun with a return quota as bait, thinking she's playing chess. But Su Qing immediately sees through it and labels him "Dangerous. Unclear motives. Needs watching." Then she calls herself the sparrow hiding behind the cicada. She's not prey—she's the predator waiting. The plot structure here is so satisfying because Su Qing doesn't run to Lu Zhanye for rescue. She goes to him voluntarily, delivers her report like a tactical briefing, and explicitly says "I'll handle this myself." She's telling him because she trusts him, not because she needs him to fix it. That's a huge character moment that also advances the plot—she's establishing that she and Lu Zhanye are partners, not protector and protected. Li Jianjun's introduction is also cleverly written. He seems like a harmless scholarly type but the details give him away immediately: red clay on his shoes from a commune ten kilometers away, a smile with no warmth in his eyes, approaching her on her exact route home. The author plants all the clues and rewards attentive readers. I love that Su Qing spots everything in real time.
