A catchy beginning, makes me want to read on more
The pacing in these first three chapters is honestly impressive. Let me break down why it works. Chapter 1 is the longest and it could have dragged—but it doesn't. The author uses the heat of Haishi City as a framing device: sweltering outside, cool inside, and Tong Hua's longing for snow becomes the emotional engine that drives the plot forward. Within the first few pages, we go from complaint to action. Su Qingyu books the trip, and by the end of the chapter, they're on a private jet. That's efficient storytelling. No filler. Chapter 2 shifts location and tone. We arrive in the Alps, and the pacing slows just enough for us to absorb the setting—the snow-capped peaks, the crisp air, the visual of Tong Hua in her pink suit looking tiny among tall European skiers. This is where the author lets the scene breathe. But then He Sui appears, and the pacing picks back up. His introduction is action-first: he skis down, sprays snow on his friend, cracks a joke. We learn about him through movement and dialogue, not exposition. Chapter 3 is where the pacing becomes almost breathless. Tong Hua sees He Sui ski, gets inspired, makes a decision, and within the span of a few paragraphs, she's losing control on a slope she shouldn't be on. The warning from Jiang Mo comes too late. The chapter ends mid-scream. This is cliffhanger pacing at its most effective—the reader is physically unable to stop turning pages. What I appreciate most is how the author varies the rhythm. Some scenes are quick and snappy (the dorm banter), some are descriptive and immersive (the Alps arrival), and some are fast and urgent (Tong Hua's fall). The transitions between these modes feel natural, not jarring. The only moment I wanted to skim was the programming book detail during the flight, but even that serves a purpose—it establishes Tong Hua's intelligence before the plot tests it.
