Like, on the surface he's this cold, overbearing military commander who basically says 'that's going a bit too far' when Old Master Qin wants to bow to his wife. But then you get these tiny glimpses underneath and oh my god. When he steps between Su Jiuyue and Qin Guohua, it's not just about protecting her reputation—it's this primal, almost possessive instinct. He literally thinks 'If those old men found out just how capable his wife was... would his home ever know another peaceful day?' That's not just being controlling, that's him genuinely wanting to shield her from the world's expectations. And then the bonus scene where he corners her against the door and says 'I'm not short on money. My insomnia is acting up again. What I need is a human pillow to coax me to sleep.' BRO. He's been suffering from PTSD and insomnia this whole time and he's asking his wife to cure him with cuddles. The contrast between the man who chokes her during a nightmare and the man who whispers 'open your mouth' while nipping her lips—this relationship is built on layers of trauma, protection, and this insane tension where they're constantly testing each other. Also Zhao Man? She's the perfect foil. Every time she opens her mouth to be a jerk, she gets absolutely demolished. 'She wanted to insist it was just a lucky guess. But seeing Old Master Qin's almost fanatical excitement, the words simply wouldn't come out.' That's not just face-slapping, that's watching someone's entire worldview crack in real time.
The mirror is such a loaded symbol in these early chapters, and I think the author is setting up something deeper than I initially realized. Jiang Muyan finds a cracked mirror that belonged to her sister—discarded, broken, but still treasured by the original host. The original host looked into it and saw someone who looked like her. The cracked surface suggests a fractured identity, a self that's been broken by neglect and abuse but still reflects something whole underneath. Then there's the letter. Liu Fangmei's biological daughter writes to her from the capital, and Jiang Muyan can see where the letter is hidden but can't read its contents through her Heavenly Eye. The letter represents truth—hidden, suppressed, but ultimately unavoidable. It's the kind of plot device that promises eventual revelation and justice. The storage room itself is symbolic. The original host doesn't even have a proper room—she sleeps among dust and clutter, surrounded by broken furniture and discarded things. She's treated like household storage, something to be used and put away. The contrast with Jiang Tianci's comfort and Jiang Muqian's pampered status isn't just cruelty—it's a commentary on how families can systematically devalue certain members while elevating others based on arbitrary factors like gender and perceived utility. And the Heavenly Eye itself is a fascinating symbolic element. It can read strangers' faces but not those with blood ties. This limitation is almost poetic—the things that should connect us (family, blood) are the very things that blind us, while the artificial bonds (strangers, fate) become the source of true clarity. The 1970s setting adds another layer. This is an era where metaphysical arts were labeled superstition, where individual fate was subsumed by collective ideology. Jiang Muyan carrying ancient knowledge into this time period creates an interesting tension between tradition and modernity, between what's been banned and what's eternally true.
There's something deeply symbolic about the liangfen versus tofu rivalry that goes beyond simple business competition. Tofu represents the old way—Gu Dafu's family has been making it for generations, it's established, it's safe. Liangfen is new, innovative, born from Lin Yue's resourcefulness. It's a cold jelly made from bean starch, something that doesn't exist in this world yet. When Lin Yue cuts it into small squares and offers free samples, she's not just marketing; she's demonstrating that new things can be approachable if you remove the barrier to entry. The two wen price point is also significant. It's cheap enough that even poor villagers can afford it, but valuable enough that Gu Grandma's private stash money matters. That scene where Gu Grandma reluctantly pays two wen from her apron—'Damn it! And that was her private stash money!'—this is about dignity and survival intersecting. Every coin counts. And the sugar-coated haws? Those are pure symbolism for everything these children can't have. Two coins for two sticks. A luxury so small it's almost cruel in its accessibility. The rich girl with her golden necklaces and silk clothes stands in stark contrast to Gou Dan and Da Ya, who are drooling over something that costs less than a bowl of liangfen. But the deeper theme here is about value and perception. The Wang family, the major landlords who could make or break a supplier, represent the entire class structure of this world. Gu Dafu sees them as his ticket out of poverty. Lin Yue sees them as just another customer. The author is quietly asking: who really holds power in this economy, and what does it cost to participate in it? The wooden token system, the stall fees, the three-coin fines—every detail reinforces that this is a world where even the smallest transaction has consequences.
I enjoy this story very much, however, there are two points that stick out to me. First, Lyra's characterization.Even in the prologue, when you think about it, the author described Lyra, or Reinst at the time as calm or serious. Yet, her thought process was anything but that. Her thought process had a tehe~ kind of tone which seemed very unsuited for how she was described.After reincarnation, her characterization didn't seem to click exactly. Even if she is a child, or is to show more childlike behaviour, she should still show signs of her past life traits other than knowledge Second, the addition of modern technology and entertainment. I mean, it's nice to blend science and magic, but this wasn't blended particularly well...With science, they mention stem cell donation. However, they mention no other scientific achievements or tools? What? Maybe my memory is bad or I missed it, but are there really no other achievements in science? It doesn't even need to be stated outright, they could just be using a scientific tool or something. Also, they mentioned there being anime, manga and light novels or something of similar content. Yet it isn't even mentioned or implied that others read/watch them. It seems as though their only purpose is to make references and jokes that would resonate with the readers. This causes it to seem like and isekai, while it isn't really and isekai.In short, the lack of attention the science receives causes the background to seem somewhat careless and unplanned.However, it is a good story with good plot, despite its flaws. I've read up to pretty much the latest chapter, so I know.It's just that these problems bother me quite a bit, do I decided to leave a review.So, in case you do write a second book, please keep in mind the inner workings of one's mind. Because seriously, the way you characterized Reinst/Lyra, they really shouldn't be acting that way.

Ah... the characters are viewing the past thanks to some holy artifact, and they find out that the man that they put on death's door, the one who they thought of as the most villainous monster in history, he was in actually a soft man!? With a soft heart, that had no choice but to freeze under the assaults of the world. Wow, how sad...I can almost shed a tear...Tears for all the readers that dismiss this story as your usual webnovel bullshit. TL;DR: This novel is a gut-wrentcher that does not hold back on its punches when it slams the waterworks. Go read it, I'm not asking. Zi Long Ling Long Land Verisioness~~~Let's start with some concrete stuff before I start fan-boying. 1. Writing Quality: Top Notch. You hardly find any grammatical error, if any. Sentences? To the point, no BS mode. Obviously, it switches things up when expositions need to take center stage. To illustrate, long time webnovel readers of the modern day, the xianxia and system enthusiasts, the exposition sounds like a mirror. It's fun, humorous, and tries to give everything personality in a place where all you can find are edgelords who wish to see nothing but a similarly edgelord MC with a gazillion wives and strength that slaps people over and over again. It doesn't feel boring, but rather consistent. 8/10Update Schedule: Check the frequency of OWE's updates. You'd expect this new novel to be dead by now no? How surprising it must be, to find that the author hasn't missed a single fucking day since he first began?Let's hope he doesn't go on a long ass smoke break again. 10/10World Building: Take LoTM, but tone it down a few levels, and remove the 60 page exposition of how smooth and buttery the chicken peas are, or how juicy the pork is. Okay, maybe tone LoTM down a few more levels. Whatever it is, it's enough. The author expects you to go through the story and understand shit when needed, so he doesn't bore you with stuff. However, you can see that the world that they live in has history. Now how it develops in the future is not something I can say. For now, 6.3/10. Character Design: Take a character, introduce him/her to the main character, familiarize and build up rapport with the readers, and then kill them off. Textbook formula no?What's hard? Doing all this and executing in such a way that the death HITS.What's harder? Doing all THAT, in less than 90 chapters, TWICE, with a bunch of shit happening in the background. For those that we've gotten to properly experience, all I can say is that they are fleshed out as hell. But for the others who we haven't yet reached, they still live a lil 2D.
