I think Carl is scared to confess, only so he is just telling Renee she owe him. Above all when he went across Michael once why can't he do the same. Is he scared that the old grumpy monster will do something bad to Renee. But he has done already too much. especially in that Red House.
So far so good. I will wait for the next chapters :)
