It's a trap. At first glance, it seems normal, perhaps even intriguing if you're a fan of stories with overpowered protagonists. However, as you delve deeper, you'll realize just how absurd and ridiculous this novel truly is.
To put it simply, the plot is riddled with planet-sized plot holes that are impossible to overlook, no matter how hard you try.
Let me outline some basic elements of this 'masterpiece' without spoiling too much to give you an idea of what it looks like:
- Let's assume the story begins in Year X.
- Fifty years prior, humanity fought a war against demons, emerged victorious, and exiled them.
- In a classic move, the defeated demons vowed to return before fleeing.
- Thirty years after the war, the protagonist’s first life ends, and around this time, the demons start their covert operations.
- Twenty years after his death (and fifty years from Year X), the protagonist begins his second life.
So far, so good. You might expect that, given the relatively short time that has passed, humanity would be prepared to face the demons again, right? Especially since some people who lived through the war are still alive and well, right, RIGHT?
Well, yes, but actually no!
Here comes the kicker:
- In the fifty years since the end of the war, despite knowing that demons and monsters would return, humanity has lost all knowledge related to them!
- There are no books about them, and the victors didn’t pass on any information to their successors!
- Now, humans can’t even identify a lowly goblin, let alone more advanced demons like doppelgangers.
- Goblins are terrifying. People are trembling!
Do you want to know the author's excuse for this setting? Even if you don't, I’ll tell you!
The knowledge wasn’t passed down because monsters could prepare countermeasures!
SUCH A BRILLIANT THEORY!
In all honesty, I’m shocked too!
Yes! There’s no need to describe the basic characteristics of demons and monsters in the book because the monsters will prepare for it! Before the demonic invasion, goblins and orcs will definitely infiltrate human libraries and learn everything!
And then they will know that you know them! What a tragedy!
After this, to fool the foolish humans, goblins will likely disguise themselves as cute elven maids and conquer humanity from within! Probably.
Note that this is the most basic and crucial setting of this novel. I’m talking about the loss of knowledge, not goblins disguised as elven maids.
There are many more plot holes in this novel, some equally ridiculous. Even if you turn off your brain, it’s still impossible to ignore something so illogical.
The writing is rather mediocre; the author attempts to sound sophisticated, but it comes across as irritating, with excessive repetition of the main character's (MC) repetitive declarations of his well-being. Frankly, the MC can be a bit annoying, but the plot holds up decently, and I do enjoy the other characters' dynamics.
People say it's a pretty good novel to pass time but why on Earth is the m named Dark Demon. Why is demon a normal noble family name. Why is his first name dark? I thought dark demon was just the name of one of the demons and was expecting a light demon and a fire demon but no dark demon is just the mc's name. Should've just named him Damian dark or something similar if you wanted him to have an edgy name.
Edit: ok I was pretty harsh on dark demon but white gawd is f'ing hilarious. Completely broke my immersion. Stupid name but funny stupid.
Ngl, the Novel is great like really good. The only problem is that, the Author made it a joke with the comedy, like here is some example :-
The MC beat the sh*t out of a trash female character brutally by using his shadow power secret chamber
The brother of that female character which also hates her asks " Did you make my sister lose her virginity?
And then it's revealed that the female character is a weirdo who has a thing to be beaten to the pulp ( that's why the brother made assumption)
All I can say is, if you haven't read about the 8th & 9th floors, you will miss the main reason why even all of those are happening and why the floors are built. It will really be hard to accept nor understand why the MC is getting this much "perks" or benefits from the tower but all the answers are in those two floors. And for me, when I learned about it, I cried because it was beautiful. And I even think that the main character for a moment there is Frost more than Junho (≧▽≦) but I can say reading it to the end will actually answer your questions here and it is worth it.
My poison taste test so far: im at chapter 61, its a generic dungeon/tower korean story. Nothing has really provoked any kind emotion from me so far, maybe besides the stuff with his mom. If anyone is a first time reader to the korean tower/dungeon genre you might like this. If youve read a few like myself you’ll probably want to skip unless you like this genre. Ill keep reading for now probably, but im burning out already.edit: let me add that its also a generic returner genre too.
My favorite villainess?
This story is a bit rough in the beginning. The MC is kinda goofy, and the anime adaptation of this story is pure trash. The second season in particular doesn't even look like the story in the light novels. The author was still in college when they started writing this series, but it improves as the story continues. It is comedic, but the comedy is situational, not the outlandish goofy 4th wall breaking ridiculousness from the anime. Please give it a try, endure the rough parts, and you'll find a truly enjoyable story.
