It seems there's a lot of confusion about the main character's (MC) situation, which can be quite intricate. Here's a concise summary:
The MC is a man from Earth who gets transported to an alternate dimension, Korea, where he is transformed into a female Beastkin due to a lack of mana. Initially, he was 25 years old, then aged down to 5 as a Beastkin. In this new world, mana is prevalent, but the MC can't use it.
As a gender-fluid Earthling, the MC pretends to be a boy to survive as a homeless person, facing hostility and mistreatment due to their disability. After 8 years, they're nearly killed by a monster and saved by a guild member who reverses their age and form, making them an adult Beastkin.
Misunderstandings arise because the MC has developed a cautious worldview after eight years of struggle, believing that:
1. Free gifts may be traps.
2. Dirt helps hide scents, especially in a dangerous environment.
3. Stealing is wrong.
4. Reusing items is essential.
When someone offers them clean clothes while discarding their usable ones, the MC perceives it as a potential threat, considering their history with these people.
Despite initial skepticism, the guild appears to be genuine in wanting to help and is working on earning the MC's trust. Given their power, it's impressive that they choose not to exploit or harm her, which adds depth to the story.
To begin with, I must confess that the initial chapters were rather unengaging due to the slow pace. However, as I progressed and reached the climax, I can now confidently declare it the best modern high school novel I've ever read. There was a sense of nostalgia, as I could relate to the protagonist's character, although not on the same level as the main lead (ML) or the narrator (MC). The realistic portrayal of teacher dynamics and their treatment of students based on academic performance resonated deeply with my own experiences.
The coming-of-age ceremony scene was particularly touching and emotional; it would have been wonderful to have experienced something similar in my own life, which unfortunately wasn't the case. The character development of ML, especially his cool and aloof demeanor, combined with his intelligence, was intriguing. If it weren't for the occasional hints about his smarts, it might have been an even more appealing surprise.
The relationship between MC and ML was undeniably sweet, bordering on the yaoi genre despite being labeled as shonen ai. I was eagerly anticipating the moment when MC would officially introduce ML to her godmother and friends as her boyfriend, but alas, it didn't happen. It added an element of mystery to their connection.
The supporting characters and their interactions were fascinating, making the narrative both entertaining and reminiscent of my own high school days. I couldn't help but wonder about Tang Sen's backstory and what led him to MC's school, which would have been a delightful addition.
In conclusion, this book evoked a sense of love and peace, despite its slow start. It was a heartwarming and nostalgic journey that I thoroughly enjoyed.
