Let me just lay it out: the dialogue in these chapters is basically non-existent. Shangguan Xueying walks into every establishment and says the same three sentences. The vendors react with the same three reactions. It's like reading a script for a play where everyone forgot their lines except the stage directions. 'I'd like to order 100 portions of every dish.' '100 portions? Are you sure, ma'am?' 'Yes, please prepare them as quickly as possible.' Repeat approximately forty-seven times. But here's the thing—I don't hate it. Because it's accurate. She's not trying to make friends. She's not trying to connect. She's running a mission and every human being she encounters is an NPC in her supply run. The flat, interchangeable dialogue IS the character development. She's so focused on the end goal that she can't be bothered to sound like a different person at each stop. The few moments where dialogue breaks from the formula are interesting. The barbecue stall owner asking 'why do you need so much?' and her lying about 'company overtime shift—night snacks for my colleagues.' That lie has a specific warmth to it, like she's trying to convince herself as much as him. And the bubble tea shop owner offering a discount—that's the only vendor who treats her like a human customer instead of a weirdo. Small moments, but they stand out precisely because everything else is so robotic.

I absolutely LOVED this book. It is a page turner for sure! I loved that the female lead was strong in her own right and the character development was amazing! Definitely looking forward to more of this author’s work!
I have read all her books and i must say she is the best one out there. I can’t understand why her books are not occupying the top ranking. This book is also one of my favourites and i can’t wait for the next update, 3 weeks is a torture
Please update!
Very interesting and cool

great story... can’t wait for Althea & Blades' story as well!
Loving this book. Can’t wait for when they actually hear each other or at least when Cali stops running.
If what think happened to Molly there’s no way in hell she would want anything to do with him
Love it every single chapter!
