Good ...... book and nice story line waiting for next chapter
I really hope this kevin-blake chapter is closed. It‘s very annoying. Liam is very cute. I also hope ethan gets his second chance with madelyn and somehow mia and forest end up together happily. None of these characters are heroic, but at least they‘re acceptable. Rest can go to hell.
Nixon is a good friend. Glad Aria had him.
Please update

lovely book. y'all should try it ...️...️
There's this scene where Li Jinhua is doing the family finances and the author just lays out the entire economic reality in cold numbers. Fifteen acres, over eight shi of beans, sold for just under twelve taels of silver. Repaid spring loans, spent five taels on wheat, left with two taels. Two taels to survive until next summer harvest. This is the novel's way of showing us that survival here isn't romantic. It's arithmetic. Every decision is calculated. Shen Youran suggested planting beans because 'beans grew better on barren land than other crops and could enrich the soil'—this is agricultural knowledge from a modern person applied to a desperate situation. The beans aren't just food, they're a strategy. And then there's the silver itself, wrapped 'layer upon layer' at the bottom of a cabinet. It's the last remnant of their old life, their savings, their safety net, and it's almost gone. The fact that Li Jinhua is considering how to make more money while simultaneously taking apart winter clothes to remake them for Ah Tao—who has none—shows how every resource is being stretched. The wasteland they're clearing is also symbolic. It's covered in withered weeds from the cold weather, but they're creating 'a buffer zone' and planning to burn it. This act of clearing and burning and replanting is the entire story in miniature—destruction as a prerequisite for growth, the necessity of passing through fire to get to something new. Shen Youran even brings barrels of water 'just in case' because he understands that the same fire that clears the land can also destroy it. The deeper question the text keeps asking is: what does it mean to build a life when you've lost everything? And the answer seems to be: one calculated decision at a time.
