Okay so let me just say—this whole mung bean jelly subplot is genuinely clever plotting. On the surface it's just a transmigration survival story, right? Girl gets eggs, girl raises chickens, girl sells stuff. But the way the author layers in the income strategy is actually really tight. First the eggs appear mysteriously, the kids believe it's a Bodhisattva blessing, and Lin Yue plays along because hey, belief sells. Then she pivots to mung bean jelly as a secondary product. It's not just random food content—she does actual market research, walks through the village, sees people suffering in the heat, spots the tea stall as proof of concept, and decides to unlock the recipe. That's a character who thinks ahead. The subplot with Xiao Lian is also doing heavy lifting here. You'd think it's just neighborly fluff, but no—Lin Yue brings her the liangfen, and suddenly we get a kitchen with proper seasonings. Salt, sugar, soy sauce, vinegar. This is how you set up a cooking business without it feeling like magic. The author is building a supply chain like a sane person instead of just hand-waving it away. And Dogdan's tofu backstory? That's world-building disguised as casual conversation. We learn about recipe monopolies, family secrets, class differences in food access—all through two kids reminiscing. That's efficient plotting right there.
