I was sad when Luisa lost her job and boyfriend in only one day but things got better and so my scrolling throughout the chapters :) It is wonderful this book. BRAVO!

Let me just say this: the pacing in these chapters is absolutely relentless and I cannot breathe. We go from a casual restaurant encounter to a physical altercation to a car confrontation to an office standoff in what feels like ten minutes of reading time. Every scene ends on a note that immediately demands the next one. The author is doing something really smart with the structure here. Each chapter opens with a hook—Gu Tingting's loud announcement, Sheng Xia visiting the film set, the restroom confrontation—and then ramps up the stakes until the chapter ends on a cliffhanger. Chapter 16 literally ends mid-action with Gu Cheng'an scooping Sheng Xia up. I had to keep reading. I couldn't stop. But what I appreciate most is how the author controls the breathing room. The restaurant scene has these tiny moments of normalcy—ordering food, making small talk, Su Qiao pulling out a chair—that give you a second to catch your breath before the next explosion. It's like the calm before every single storm. And the restroom scene? Pure chaos, no relief, just escalating panic and accusation after accusation. The only thing I'd say is that some of the transitions between scenes feel a bit abrupt, but honestly, in a story this tense, that works in its favor. You're always slightly off-balance, which is exactly the feeling the author wants.
