Absolutely amazing! 10/10
I’ve been waiting for a new chapter to update for so long! Come on!
The worldbuilding in these chapters is so quietly brilliant that I almost didn't notice it until I was already three chapters deep. Let me start with the meat supply station scene. "There were not many people taking the bus to the city in the morning. There were soldiers carrying bags, likely going home on leave to visit family, and a few military wives like Mu Youyou." In one sentence, the author establishes the era, the social structure, and Mu Youyou's position in it. No exposition dump, just... observation. This is how you do period setting. The military compound itself feels incredibly alive. Auntie Li knows everyone, Wang Guihua is the nosy neighbor, Deputy Battalion Commander Cui has two kids, Li Yumei has a garden. These aren't just names—they're a whole social ecosystem that Mu Youyou has to navigate. And the author never stops to explain it to us. We just... know. Because Mu Youyou knows. The kitchen scenes are where the worldbuilding really shines. The well water, the two pots, the bamboo basket for cooling meat, the mung bean soup cooked in the space's electric cooker (a subtle nod to her secret without breaking the period atmosphere). Every detail feels researched and authentic. But the scene that lives in my head now is the backyard. Gu Beiting coming home from training, seeing her hoeing, the sunlight on her face from earlier making him notice how she's changed the main hall—tablecloth, red paper window patterns. "His eyes lit up with curiosity." The house is becoming a home, and he's noticing it. The bath scene at the end is pure cinematic. She comes out in a pink cotton nightgown, hair down, and he's standing in the yard pretending to work the hoe. "I…I'm going to bed," she says, cheeks pink. He swallows. That's the entire scene. No dialogue, no action, just two people trying very hard not to notice each other while noticing everything.
Seriously, dragging fir too long with unnecessary plots!
Drawn in by the cover, stayed for the story.
This story is one of the best I have read so far… hopefully you will get better soon and continue updating. Don’t let haters get you… it’s your story and you determine how it should be told. We are here to enjoy the journey
