This book/storyline is getting really good. The lead female character is growing into her own. She’s going to be a phenomenal leader. To bad she has to endure so much for (in my opinion) an unworthy mate (that’s easily manipulated by the female antagonist).

I keep coming back to the imagery in this section, and I think the author is building something deeper than just a survival story. The chains. They're physical restraints, sure, but they're also symbolic of Xu Songhe's situation in this world—bound, powerless, at the mercy of forces she doesn't understand. The system didn't even give her a plot summary. She's chained to a narrative she can't see. And yet she finds a way to break free, not through strength but through cunning. The sun is such a rich symbol here. Xu Songhe draws a crude sun in the snow—a symbol of warmth, life, hope—in the middle of a freezing wasteland. Qi Wuyang calls it ugly and walks away, but he doesn't erase it. He leaves it there. And later, when she finds the green grass growing at the edge of the cliff, it's the same defiant burst of life. The sun drawing and the grass are the same impulse: creating beauty and hope in a hostile environment. The cliff itself is another symbol. Qi Wuyang points her toward it 'to find herbs.' Is he testing her? Setting her up to fall? Or is he genuinely showing her a path forward? The ambiguity is the point. This world is dangerous, yes, but there are also small patches of green growing in the snow. The story isn't just about survival—it's about finding reasons to keep going even when everything around you is frozen.
