And before that? The griddle cake scene. Mei Qian describing the two textures—the crispy golden-brown side from the iron pan, the soft chewy side from the water drizzle—and the "rich, toasty aroma of grains" wafting through the night air. The author makes you SMELL this food. I was literally hungry while reading this, which is impressive for a text about famine and refugees. The worldbuilding here is subtle but effective. We learn about the refugee hierarchy just through description: families with donkeys are "relatively well-off," the outermost refugees have nothing, wild vegetables are disappearing from the land. The Xirong aren't just generic barbarians—they have their own language (guttural, incomprehensible chatter), they ride horses, they use curved blades, and they hunt refugees like game. The wealthy families' convoy having torches and archers suggests there's a whole social ecosystem among the refugees that we're only starting to see. The Beastman Plane and milk fruits add a fantasy layer that feels organic rather than forced. It's not explained with infodumps—Xiao Mei just tells Mei Qian what they are, and we learn through Mei Qian's reaction. The world feels lived-in and expanding naturally.
Love it sofar like most of the books I’m reading here,question how the hell does a chapter have less then 15/20 pages,when u charge us over 20coins,chapters needs to be longer,if we charge so much for it,& we’re charge for data…not fair u can’t even change unlocked chapters without data,

Lawd, I'm tayaaad! Yet here I am, already put so much time into reading it, I know I'd be mad at myself if I don't finish the entire thing. I just hope it won't end being one of those 4000+ chapters (and still ongoing) novels...
