I need to talk about the grain distribution scene because the visual details are so vivid. The long line, the piles of corn and dried sweet potatoes, the two small basins of millet and soybeans—this isn't just background, this is a world where scarcity is the default and every jin of grain is a battle. And then the bullock cart ride to the reservoir construction site? The old ox pulling the rickety cart, the rough road, the forty-six people from Wanggezhuang all crammed together—that's pure cinematic imagery. I could see the dust, the cold morning air, the way people shift and jostle for position. The reservoir itself, being built in a valley with soil dug from two small hills, gives this sense of massive human effort against nature. And the women's quarters at the construction site, the tools being registered with fingerprints—these small details make the world feel lived-in and real. The author doesn't over-describe, but when they do, it's always purposeful. Every setting detail serves the story.
