Alas, I finally finished reading this novel, it was great & there was so many plot twist’s especially that last one 8/10
I really enjoyed this novel but I ended really badly. The author got sick and the novel got axed so the story had a really rushed ending. I think the story is worth reading just stop a couple chapters before the end to keep this a good story that got dropped rather than a good storied that was axed.

It felt more fitting to portray the siblings as the source of their own misfortune, preventing them from coexisting harmoniously.
What I appreciated were the characters' frankness, honesty, and boldness, which added depth to the story. The theme of second chances, where none were squandered, was particularly moving. Furthermore, the supporting characters had their own distinct narratives, enriching the overall plot.
The novel is rather ordinary; the beginning lacks excitement, and the protagonist passively goes through events without much development. The writing appears inconsistent, particularly regarding the主人公's prolonged stay in a billion-dollar dungeon, which primarily consists of slimes, for over three years. It's unclear where his initial funds came from, as if the dungeon's value was artificially inflated to drive the plot forward. There's a lack of proper buildup or smooth progression in the story.
I would rate this story an impressive 9.5/10, considering the unfair grading it has faced. The essence of a compelling narrative isn't limited to triumphs or主角的成长。 It could simply be a well-crafted tale with complex characters, a coherent world, and a gripping plot. The story here, "Firefly of the Dark Night," immerses us in the life of Tomobe, a struggling servant in a harsh, conflicted world where humans and yokai (Japanese mythical creatures) are locked in a centuries-long war.
In this backdrop, the characters are deeply scarred by苦难, with survival often requiring ruthless tactics. The stakes are high, as even skilled exorcists' lives matter more than ordinary folk's. The society is hierarchical, ruthless, and survival-driven, making kindness and compassion rare virtues. Despite the odds stacked against him, Tomobe, driven by a desire to protect others, endures torture, abuse, and danger to save those around him, even those he doesn't know.
Critics might argue that he appears too idealistic, akin to a clichéd hero. However, Tomobe's goodness is genuine, not naive, as he understands the value of life and makes difficult choices. He prioritizes based on the greater good, not just personal gain. Comparatively, many isekai novels feature self-centered protagonists with convenient advantages, while Tomobe's journey is grounded in realism and sacrifice.
In conclusion, "Firefly of the Dark Night" offers a refreshing take on storytelling, presenting a challenging and morally complex world that demands empathy and understanding. The author's skill shines through, even in translation, making this a captivating read.

you do understand that they are not exclusive right? polygamy mean they have multiple romantic partners at once and first time mean he will have his first time having intercourse. that most likely mean he will have his first time with one of his harem members. so while i don't know what about that turned you away i guess keep that in mind.
