I rather enjoyed this novel. I binged for two weeks reading it. I liked the fact that it did not drag on, Not many filler chapters, steadily moved ahead, the character was not over the top OP. One of the better novels I have read in a while
The first chapter got me hooked.
I need to talk about Song Zhuowei because THIS MAN is struggling and I am HERE for it. The scene where he's holding Lin Xizhi against his chest, pretending to escort her away while secretly hoping she'll stay at Aunt Hui's? He's torn between his duty as a Sea Guard captain and the fact that he literally cannot bear to let her out of his sight. And then Aunt Hui opens the door and catches Lin Xizhi, and Song Zhuowei's entire composure cracks when he threatens her about Widow Village's reputation. He's not actually trying to scare her away—he's trying to find an excuse to keep her close by making the alternative sound worse. Classic. And the physical description of his heartbeat—'Boom... boom... It beat so loudly that even his own ears seemed to ache'—I literally gasped. Meanwhile Peng Zeping is fuming in the background because she sees right through Lin Xizhi's enchantment but can't stop noticing it. The love triangle energy is simmering under the surface and I am vibrating. What kills me is that Lin Xizhi thinks SHE's the one orchestrating everything, that she'll 'find a way to repay Song Zhuowei for this kindness,' completely unaware that he deliberately engineered this outcome because he couldn't bear to have her in the dormitory with other girls. The dramatic irony is THICK.

dragging it on too long no one is concerned about the children well being parents are selfish asf Wendy & Byron's mother running a muck I loved the book at first but now I see it becoming to be a waste of time and money
I love absolutely loved it! yet another not disappointed this is my 3rd book i have read of yours and I'm hooked
