Loved this story! Really nicely done author!
Update: I've managed to catch up to the latest chapter, Chapter 98, at the time of writing this. In summary, I wholeheartedly believe this novel deserves a 5-star rating, as anything less would be an injustice. I'll break down my thoughts into three categories: character development, world-building, and plot.
Character Development:
- The protagonist's journey with gender bender (GB) is not merely a plot device but serves to explore the complexity of identity and dysphoria. The author skillfully portrays the MC's struggle to find themselves in a foreign body, which is a rarity in such novels.
- The MC's character is surprisingly human, with flaws and emotions that resonate. Their reactions to their situation feel genuine, avoiding the pitfalls of unrealistic or one-dimensional characters.
World-Building:
- The medieval setting is harsh, reflecting the MC's struggle to survive in a world that offers no mercy or support. The cruel reality they face emphasizes the theme of survival over living, making readers empathize with the MC's plight.
- The world actively opposes the MC, forcing her to give up her autonomy and identity for the benefit of those who see her as an object. Even fellow outcasts suffer similarly, highlighting the universality of their struggles.
Plot:
- The plot is exceptional, with a recent update resolving a previously inconsistent side plot. The central theme of surviving has taken a darker turn, with a significant trigger warning.
Spoilers follow:
- The villainess, who previously seemed underdeveloped, is given a more nuanced role that connects to the main storyline, adding depth to the narrative.
- Sexual abuse is a sensitive topic, but the author handles it cautiously, though some readers might find it underemphasized. It serves to illustrate the MC's powerlessness in certain situations.
- The MC's dissociative mindset, seeing the world as a game, becomes a crucial aspect, hinting at the emotional toll it takes on her.
- The revelation of a guiding presence, who the MC believes loves them, adds a layer of complexity to the story, challenging the reader's assumptions.
- The ending, with its bittersweet note, leaves a lasting impact, drawing parallels to the famous quote, "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream."
In conclusion, "Society's Pet Daughter" is a dark and psychological masterpiece that explores themes of identity, survival, and the human condition. If you enjoy this genre, I highly recommend giving it a read, as it delivers a gripping and thought-provoking experience.
now let me say I'm the biggest hater. I hate the way that you walk, the way that you talk, I hate the way that you dress.
Typa sh*t
Why no update in a month.
Cant believe I actually read this. .
I certainly enjoyed it, I was quite disappointed that the author stopped writing chapters as in the last chapter things were started to get heated
