I keep coming back to this moment because it feels like the book is asking: do you want the tools of your own violence? Does carrying the weapon make you the killer, or does using it make you the killer? She wants nothing to do with it, but she already did it. The hairpin is clean now, glinting in the moonlight, but it's stained with something she can't wash away. Then there's the faked illness. Xia Xiuyan pretends to be sick his whole life in the palace. And what do we learn? He's actually an exceptional archer who can take down four men in the dark. The illness is his camouflage — a way to move through a dangerous court without anyone seeing his edges. But on the mountain, the camouflage drops. Qiu Xinran is the one who sees through it first: "You've been faking your illness, haven't you?" And once she knows, she's trapped. Knowledge is both her power and her cage. The moon appears three times across these chapters — during the fight, during the quiet night scene, and when he returns the hairpin. It's always cold, always watching, never warm. It illuminates but doesn't comfort. And the mountain itself — it's where they're most honest with each other, stripped of palace pretense, and also where the violence is most raw. The palace is where they pretend. The mountain is where they're real. That inversion is everything.

Wen Lingrao doesn't just catch Chu Huan red-handed—she dismantles him piece by piece like a surgeon removing a tumor. The way the author structures this confrontation is chef's kiss. First, she reveals she knows about the embezzlement in general. Then she drops the specific number—fifty thousand taels—and watches him lose his mind. Then she mentions the shop title deeds. Then the secret compartment under the bed. Each revelation is a hammer blow, and Chu Huan's reactions go from denial to ghost-faced terror in real time. But what really sold me was the audit sequence that follows. She doesn't just accuse him—she pulls out the actual account book and goes line by line, exposing every fraudulent entry with cold precision. The rice purchase at inflated prices, the construction materials markup, the phantom charcoal deliveries, the missing furnishings, and then the gut-punch about the Heir's money. Each one is a smaller reveal that builds to the bigger picture of systemic corruption spanning twenty years. And the Ling Ji entrance—where does that guy even come from?! One moment he's not there, the next he's materialized like a shadow given form. I love how even Tong Meng, a trained martial artist, couldn't sense his approach. That's a character I need to know more about. The whole sequence from confrontation to discovery to systematic unraveling is so satisfying. It's the kind of plot payoff that makes you want to shout at the page. How does she know all this? What else is she hiding? The questions are already piling up.

I can say with pride that the novel is one of the best in its genre. There are many web novels that fail in many things, like the rhythm of the story and the characters relationships, also the characters interaction, but the most important thing is the planning of the story. I am really confident this novel surpass the most popular novels because of the author; the author takes his time planning the story, and I'm sure it will never disappoint the reader. I hope all the new readers give it a chance because it's the type of novel that respects your mind, and I hope the author continues his cooking.
Dont try this, it can damage ur balls not placed down its YOUR brain i nearly got damage to my brain so i stopped at chp 1, i thought this novel was a warcraft fanfic with dark fantasy when i see name, i think its written by someone to satisfy their own fantasy r@pe desire waste of 1 star rate , garbage?????

I really love the character development and the plot as well as your writing style but I wish to know more about the world the characters are living in. It would be great if you add more world development in the later chapters and also focus a bit more on Eli's romance with Sara.
I'll be the poison tester here ?I've read up to four chapters and its's good so far other than the three poems in chapter one, I've not encountered anything major that tipped me off.So yeah next time cut back on the poems and you'll get a five stars next time (Author don't delete them entirely though, I liked some of them.)I'll give a summary/synopsis of the first few chapters as well for fellow readers who are hesitating.Man with dog gets reincarnated into a fantasy world in the medievalish era.Story is currently still full of mystery and wonder for the magic system, but author has given clues here and there.
